Presenting I. Stephanie Boyce, in celebration of black history month

In March 2021, I. Stephanie Boyce became the 177th president of the Law Society of England and Wales, the sixth female and the first black office holder to be appointed. During her tenure, Stephanie faced many challenges including navigating the tail end of Brexit and the Covid 19 pandemic.

Born to parents of Caribbean decent and spending some of her younger years in America before moving back to the England, Stephanie has voiced the challenges she faced trying to break into the legal industry. She has spoken about her goal of making the profession more diverse and inclusive from when she entered it, ensuring that there be continued public confidence in the legal profession.

The former president of the Law Society is a British solicitor who has a wealth of experience in corporate governance, regulatory frameworks and professional regulation. She has worked within in-house roles throughout her carer including the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and General Council of the Bar.
