An adoption order made by the court gives adopters legal parental status as if the child was born to them and ends the parental rights of the birth parents. To apply for an adoption order in England and Wales you must satisfy requirements in respect of your age, where you permanently live (known as habitual residence or domicile), and the length of time that the child has been living with you. Normally adopters are helped through the adoption process by their local authority however there are times when a case is not straightforward for one reason or another and in these circumstances our Adoption Solicitors can advise and represent you at all stages of the adoption process.
Our Adoption Solicitors can also provide advice and support to families once an adoption order has been made by the court in respect of all issues/problems that may arise after an adoption order has been made including post adoption contact matters, issues relating to post adoption support from the local authority and in circumstances where a placement has broken down.
